I couldn't agree more with your analysis. The idea that tests can measure human capacity is clearly mistaken. But further, all the SATS are expected to correlate with is first year academic GPA--nothing more. In my experience it is often the case that non-traditional students take a bit longer to acclimatize to college environment and its attendant expectations. The diamond in the rough analogy is apt but incorrectly understood by many--diamonds in the rough must be polished and refined delicately by professionals who respect their unique character. Something no test can measure.
