Thank you for this! The absurdity of Kristof's piece is maddening. As a Tennessean and a parent, this policy (and much of what passes for education policy in Tennessee) seems to be based on either cruelty or a desire to foment chaos. Certainly, these policy decisions are made absent any consultation with actual educators.
