Last week Cornell University joined a growing list of prominent colleges and universities that have pledged their institutions and leadership to neutrality on “hot issues.” Such stances have drawn praise from most observers, who insist that educational institutions are for, well, educating, by which they mean reading, writing and arithmetic.
"In what alternate universe are the senseless murders of Black men and boys at the hands of police considered controversial?"
But somehow the senseless murders (many hundreds of times more murders) of Palestinian men, women, boys and girls at the hands of the Israeli military is controversial?? Check yourself.
It's not controversial. The knottyness is because Hamas is nasty and killing Jews sucks too. But I, like you, make no equivalence. Cut and paste for your other comment.
What would you do if you'd been trapped in the world's largest concentration camp for as long as you could remember? What would you do if a colonizing/occupying country controlled every movement into, out of and within your country? What if that country denied basic imports and exports in order to economically strangle your people and deny you any chance of freedom? What if that country posted people all around the walls and those people shot at your people for the fun of it? Might you take action against that country? Might you try to break out of that concentration camp? Might you take hostages for extra leverage to try to end the occupation and receive your freedom? Hamas may have done some "nasty" things, but it pales in comparison to the nastiness that Israel has been inflicting for 76 years.
"...as there is no “winning” position in the dual awfulness of Hamas and Netanyahu."
That's like saying there is no "winning" position in the dual awfulness of the Jewish Resistance and Hitler. One side is committing genocide, the other side is fighting for their existence. You from your comfortable computer chair, are not qualified to say how the latter should be done. The only thing that needs to be said is that the former needs to be stopped by any means necessary. You'd agree if it were your friends, family and children being slaughtered by the thousands.
Has Steve become Paul?
