Thanks for this, Steve. For a naive white boy in college in Mississippi in the 60s, the dog whistles and strategies went right over my head even though I was working on voters rights and some of that work was done in Philadelphia, MS, right before those 3 young men were murdered. I should have seen it though, having been suspended from school for 6 weeks for having attended a Joan Baez concert at Tougaloo College (HBUC). Thanks!
I dunno. MLK would probably more roll his eyes at Trump. He was well familiar with Trump's type, after all - it certainly wouldn't have come as a surprise to him.
Today's liberals/Democrats are actively trying to prevent Medicare for all despite the fact that 70% of the country wants it and we're in the middle of the pandemic. They've watered down demands for stimulus payments to the point we're supposed to be grateful we might get $1,400 after Biden promised $2,000. They're arguing to *increase* police funding after a whole summer of BLM protests demanding exactly the opposite while police go right on killing blacks and coddling right-wing whites. They sing the praises of Biden for "believing" in science (which, incidentally, is not something one should "believe in" - it's simply fact), even though Biden has said he will not ban fracking, he will not refuse fossil fuel money, he will not shut the country down and he will re-open schools before even a third of the country has been vaccinated.
MLK was also famously anti-war, yet today's Democrats/liberals have excoriated even Trump's minor gestures toward drawing down troops. They are cheering on a new cold war with Russia. They are demanding intervention in places like Venezuela and Bolivia. They are even cheering Biden's promise of new "domestic terrorism" laws that will bring the worst foreign policy abuses of the Bush years home to American soil.
All of these factors affect Blacks far more than whites, yet the Democrats are recognized as somehow not racist (despite Biden's long and extreme history of racist policies and openly supporting segregationists).

Well done.

If anything, I think MLK would be weeping more at today's Democrats (although they too would not surprise him. MLK had a lot to say about nice white liberals who constantly tried to delay progress because it wasn't the right time. https://progressivemartialartist.substack.com/p/embrace-mlk-reject-barack-obama-why?r=egujw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=twitter

Perhaps this wasn't your intention, but this piece comes across as saying MLK would favor the Democrats, which I really don't believe he would. MLK was a radical socialist who demanded not only racial justice but economic and foreign justice as well. That is not what we have gotten from the Democrats. https://progressivemartialartist.substack.com/p/embrace-mlk-reject-barack-obama-why?r=egujw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=twitter
